DRDC is always on the lookout for dental innovations, from patient treatments to waste reduction or the use of eco-friendly alternatives.
Dental clinics handle a lot of saliva, blood, different diseases, etc. every day. This is the reason why our topmost priority is to provide safe dentistry for everyone. And one of the criteria for every reusable alternative we choose should be able to withstand our series of sterilization, including the highest form of sterilization-- autoclaving. This makes our alternative an even better option than disposables because it is cleaner and safer.
Although we and the dentistry world will be far from a zero-waste industry, we try even in the littlest effort. Mother Earth needs every bit of help, especially after this pandemic where so many face masks and disposable gloves go to our landfill.
It has always been our duty to heal people and we believe that having a habitable Earth in the future is part of healing.
The following are the efforts of DRDC for a sustainable dental practice:
Handwashing Areas - Our plant-based liquid hand soap is sourced from a local refilling station. The towels that we use as a replacement for tissue towels also are laundered using a laundry detergent that is locally sourced and refilled.
This pandemic has taught all of us that handwashing is the most effective way of avoiding infections and diseases like COVID-19. And we have been using so many tissue towels packaged in plastics that go to our landfills. Thus, this effort, albeit small, is still a step towards a greener Earth.
Patient Attire - Patient gowns, booties, head cap and dental bibs are all reusable. Despite being reusable, it undergoes the strictest form of sterilization--autoclaving. The laundry detergent used to wash it is also laundered using a laundry detergent that is locally sourced and refilled.
Basic Materials for dental treatment - DRDC is proud to have stayed away from disposable cups, suction tips, and bracket table bibs. We switched to autoclavable and eco-friendly alternatives.
Disinfectant solution - here at DRDC, we make our own disinfectant solution which we use as a chemical sterilizer. We use it as an initial surfactant for most surfaces in the clinic and since it is also natural and safe, we use it as a solution for our humidifiers to disinfect the air.
With all these, our basic consultation and Oral Prophylaxis are 80% sustainable and 100% sterile.
